Insurance / Physical Risk Telemetry

Physical Risk Telemetry for Insurance

Turn cameras and sensors across insured operations into structured, continuous risk data for underwriting, actuarial modelling, portfolio analytics, claims and risk engineering.

Motor insurance has telematics. Physical operations can too.

Vehicle telematics transformed motor insurance by creating continuous data about how, when and where risk occurs. Fogsphere applies the same principle to the physical world — converting cameras and sensors at insured locations into structured risk telemetry.

Insurer data systems

Claims tell you what happened. Fogsphere shows what risk was present before it happened.

Insurance organisations already hold deep historical information about losses. Fogsphere adds a new class of data: observations of physical exposure, control compliance, unsafe conditions, near misses, security events and changing risk patterns across the insured operation.

Safety & Liability

Measure the behaviours, conditions and exposures that contribute to worker injury, third-party liability and serious-loss potential.

Property & Security

Create structured data around fire and hot-work conditions, intrusion, theft, access, asset exposure and other physical-loss drivers.

Exposure & Portfolio Intelligence

Normalise observations by activity, time and interaction volume so insurers can compare trends across sites, projects and portfolios.

Use cases that become insurance telemetry

PPE & Personal Protection

Observed PPE compliance and exceptions.

Work at Height

Open edges, barriers, scaffolds, ladders and fall-protection exposure.

Worker / Plant Proximity

Pedestrian–vehicle and pedestrian–plant conflict.

Line of Fire & Lifting

Hazardous movement paths, crane zones and suspended-load exposure.

Vehicle Speed & Movement

Overspeed, routing and unsafe movement patterns.

Hot Work & Fire Conditions

Hot work, sparks, smoke, fire and visible control conditions.

Restricted Access & Intrusion

Critical zones, after-hours activity and perimeter events.

Housekeeping & Egress

Blocked paths, escape routes and persistent obstructions.

Occupancy & Activity Density

Worker counts, contractor presence, active zones and congestion.

Don’t just count events. Measure exposure.

A site with 100 observed events is not automatically riskier than a site with 20. One operation may have significantly more workers, tasks, vehicle movements or operating hours.

Fogsphere can combine observed events with exposure denominators so insurers can analyse rates, compliance and trends — not raw counts alone.

Illustrative example

Worker / Plant Proximity

83 events
2.4 events per 10,000 observed person–plant interactions
Illustrative example

Work at Height

14 open-edge events
0.7 events per 1,000 active work-at-height hours
Illustrative example

Vehicle Movement

17 overspeed events
1.6 events per 1,000 vehicle movements
Illustrative example

Restricted Access

31 access exceptions
0.12 exceptions per 100 zone-hours

Five layers of physical-risk data

Exposure

Worker-hours · Vehicle movements · Plant hours · Zone-hours

Control

PPE compliance · Barrier integrity · Restricted-zone compliance

Context

Zone · Shift · Contractor · Project phase · Asset · Timestamp

Trend

One telemetry layer. Multiple insurance workflows.

Underwriting

Add observed physical-risk factors to submissions, surveys, project data and historical loss information.

Actuarial & Data Science

Correlate normalised telemetry with claims frequency, severity, loss ratios and other portfolio outcomes.

Risk Engineering

Prioritise site visits and specialist attention using continuous evidence between physical assessments.

Portfolio Management

Compare risk factors and trends across locations, projects, contractors, industries and programmes.

Claims

Retrieve time-stamped event context and agreed evidence references to support investigation and chronology.

Product Innovation

Embed Fogsphere telemetry into differentiated insurance programmes for high-hazard physical operations.

Renewal — Bring longitudinal risk-factor data into renewal discussions instead of relying only on a point-in-time site picture.

How Fogsphere works

Fogsphere can use existing camera infrastructure, purpose-deployed cameras and compatible sensors. Vision Agents perform perception and contextual reasoning close to the source, producing structured risk events and telemetry.

Approved data can then be delivered to insurer or insured systems through APIs, webhooks, dashboards or scheduled exports.

Portfolio analytics

Share the telemetry — not necessarily the video.

For many deployments, the insurer does not need continuous access to live video.

Fogsphere deployments can be configured so that video is processed and retained according to the insured organisation’s deployment policy while approved telemetry, metrics and evidence references are shared with the insurer.

Edge processing

Reduce the amount of raw video that must leave the insured environment.

Video governance

Insurers can receive approved telemetry without continuous live-video access.

Evidence

Where agreed, events can reference supporting clips, images, timestamps and context.

Privacy-aware workflows

Face blurring, anonymised analytics and configurable retention can be incorporated where appropriate.
