Asset Presence & Utilisation
Detects whether equipment is present, active or idle, and reports how much of each shift a machine, bay or work front is actually being used.

What it detects
Utilisation is the gap between what a plant register says you own and what the yard shows you using. Fogsphere measures it from the cameras already watching the asset.
Active-versus-idle time by asset
Splits each asset’s shift into active work and idle standing time, reported per machine, per zone and per day.
Idle equipment detection
Flags plant that has been stationary longer than its configured idle threshold, on haul roads, laydown yards and work fronts.
Heavy machinery activity
Tracks cranes, excavators, loaders, forklifts, telehandlers and concrete trucks against the hours they are booked for.
Robot and cell utilisation
Reports robot idle time, cell occupancy, blocked robot paths and AGV dwell across automated production cells.
Forklift and MHE utilisation
Detects forklifts and materials-handling equipment, times how long each is in productive movement, and reports utilisation by fleet.
Bay, stand and berth utilisation
Measures whether service bays, test bays, stands and berths are occupied or empty, and reports vehicle dwell by type of work.
Crane and terminal equipment utilisation
Reports crane idle time and utilisation across marine terminals, yards and heavy-lift operations.
Mobile equipment availability
Tracks beds, stretchers, pumps, supply carts and other mobile equipment, and where each is currently sitting.
Underused plant and stalled work fronts
Surfaces plant consistently under its expected utilisation, and work fronts where no activity has been recorded.
Unauthorised equipment use
Flags equipment operated outside its booked window, or by an operator the zone does not expect.
Where it applies
Utilisation appears in every Q3 paper that has moving plant. The asset changes — a crane, a robot cell, a forklift, an infusion pump — but active-versus-idle is the same measurement.
How it works
Edge inference on the cameras you already have
Asset detection and activity classification run on the edge device next to the cameras already covering the yard, bay or cell. No telematics box, no retro-fitted tag on every machine.
Zones, thresholds and schedules you configure
Draw the zone the asset works in, set the idle threshold, and set the shift pattern utilisation is measured against. A crane pad, a service bay and a robot cell can each hold different rules on the same estate.
Every event carries its own evidence
Each detection is logged with a timestamp, the camera and zone it came from, and a short clip. The record can be reviewed, exported or attached to an investigation without trawling through hours of footage.
Feeds the systems already in place
Events surface in Fogsphere Manager and route outward to the CMMS, ERP, plant-hire register, control-room wallboard or messaging channel operators already watch.
Risk & control objective
The control objective is knowing what proportion of an asset’s paid time is productive. Hire registers, telematics and operator timesheets each describe part of it; none of them show a forty-tonne machine standing still because the work front ahead was not ready.
The value is that one measurement answers a procurement question and a scheduling question at once. Procurement asks whether the fleet is the right size. Planning asks why a work front slipped. Both read the same active-versus-idle record, sliced differently.
Utilisation data also changes how disputes are settled. Standing time on a hired machine, an equipment claim, a delay narrative — each becomes a timestamped record with clips attached rather than a recollection.
