Blocked Exit & Egress Route Detection
Detects material, vehicles and equipment obstructing emergency exits, fire doors, escape routes and safety equipment, and logs how long each obstruction stayed in place.

What it detects
Egress obstruction is the most consistently reported housekeeping failure across the Q3 papers. It is also the easiest to fix, once someone knows about it.
Blocked emergency exits and fire doors
Identifies material, stock, vehicles and equipment placed in front of emergency exits and fire doors, with the obstruction timed from placement.
Blocked aisles and walkways
Detects pallets, cages, cables and debris obstructing designated aisles and pedestrian routes.
Obstructed escape routes
Flags obstruction along the marked escape route itself, not only at the door, including corridors, stairs and access panels.
Blocked fire and safety equipment
Surfaces extinguishers, hose reels, call points, eyewash stations and emergency showers that have been obstructed or hidden.
Blocked plant and service rooms
Detects blocked electrical rooms, mechanical rooms, switchrooms and service corridors where access is needed during a response.
Emergency-stop obstruction
Flags emergency-stop devices and machine access points that have been blocked or made unreachable.
Emergency exit misuse
Identifies exits used as ordinary doors, propped open, or used for deliveries and smoking breaks outside an emergency.
Emergency vehicle and assembly-area access
Surfaces obstruction of fire lanes, emergency vehicle routes, muster points and assembly areas.
Escape-route congestion during evacuation
Measures flow and congestion along escape routes during drills and live evacuations, including exits that are not being used.
Public-space evacuation route blockage
Detects obstruction of evacuation routes and emergency gathering points in stations, terminals and public areas.
Obstruction duration and repeat locations
Records how long each obstruction persisted and which locations recur, so the fix targets the cause rather than the instance.
Where it applies
Blocked exits and egress routes are named in eleven of the twelve Q3 papers — the single most widely shared detection in the entire Q3 set.
How it works
Edge inference on the cameras you already have
Detection runs on the cameras already covering the exit, aisle or equipment position, comparing the current view against the clear-state reference for that location.
Zones, thresholds and schedules you configure
Mark the keep-clear area on each camera view and set how long an obstruction may persist before it is raised. Loading operations and staging areas can be given a working tolerance that a fire door cannot.
Every event carries its own evidence
Each detection is logged with a timestamp, the camera and zone it came from, and a short clip. The record can be reviewed, exported or attached to an investigation without trawling through hours of footage.
Feeds the systems already in place
Events surface in Fogsphere Manager and route outward to the VMS, access-control platform, control-room wallboard, ticketing queue or messaging channel operators already watch.
Risk & control objective
The control objective is that the escape route is clear at the moment it is needed, which is not the same as it being clear at the moment it was inspected. Obstruction is transient, unglamorous and constant: a pallet set down for ten minutes that stays for two days.
Periodic inspection is structurally the wrong instrument. A weekly walk samples a continuous variable at one point, and everyone on site knows roughly when the walk happens. Continuous observation from the cameras already covering the aisle removes the sampling problem entirely.
The most useful output is duration rather than count. One blocked exit for three minutes is an operational fact; the same exit blocked for eleven hours a week across a quarter is a layout or process problem, and only the timed record makes the difference visible.
