Surveillance Integrity & Camera Tampering

Detects when a camera is moved, covered, defocused, obstructed or goes dark, and reports which zones have stopped being observed and for how long.

What it detects

A camera estate is only as useful as the fraction of it still looking at the right thing. Fogsphere monitors the feeds themselves and surfaces the ones that have degraded.

Lens covering and spraying

Identifies a lens covered, taped, sprayed or blocked, and raises the event against the specific camera and the zone it was covering.

Field-of-view shift

Detects a camera knocked, rotated or repositioned so that it no longer frames the zone it was commissioned for.

Physical obstruction

Flags stored material, parked vehicles, stacked pallets, scaffold and vegetation that have grown into or been placed across a camera’s view.

Defocus and image degradation

Surfaces gradual blur, condensation, dirt build-up and focus drift that quietly reduce a feed to unusable long before anyone notices.

Signal loss and blackout windows

Logs feeds that drop, freeze or stall, with the start and end of every blackout window recorded per camera.

Night illumination failure

Detects failed IR illuminators, dead area lighting and persistent glare that leave a zone effectively unobserved after dark.

Doors and gates left open in blind spots

Correlates open-door and open-gate events with the cameras covering them, so an obstruction and an open access point are surfaced together.

Correlated physical and cyber anomalies

Flags camera tampering, gate anomalies and unusual area access occurring in the same window as an OT or network event, for joint review.

Coverage-gap reporting

Reports which zones lost observation, when, for how long, and which camera was responsible — as a running record, not a one-off alarm.

Estate-level integrity trend

Tracks recurring tamper and obstruction events by camera, area and shift, so persistent blind spots become visible as a pattern.

Where it applies

Camera tampering is called out explicitly in the chemical, manufacturing, logistics, power-generation and food-defence security sections, and is a named evidence hook in TAPA FSR facility-security programmes.

How it works

Edge inference on the cameras you already have

Integrity checks run on the same edge inference that handles detection, comparing each frame against the reference view the camera was commissioned with. No additional hardware is required.

Zones, thresholds and schedules you configure

Set the reference view, the tolerance for scene change, and the blackout duration that counts as an outage, per camera. Cameras on moving structures or seasonal scenes can be given wider tolerances.

Every event carries its own evidence

Each detection is logged with a timestamp, the camera and zone it came from, and a short clip. The record can be reviewed, exported or attached to an investigation without trawling through hours of footage.

Feeds the systems already in place

Events surface in Fogsphere Manager and route outward to the VMS, access-control platform, control-room wallboard, ticketing queue or messaging channel operators already watch.

Risk & control objective

The control objective is knowing the observation estate is actually observing. Most security programmes assume camera coverage as a constant, then discover after an incident that the relevant feed had been blurred, blocked or offline for weeks.

The failure modes are mostly mundane rather than malicious. A pallet stacked in front of a dock camera, a lens fogged after a wash-down, an illuminator that stopped working in October, a PTZ left parked at a preset. Deliberate tampering matters, but it is the everyday degradation that removes most of the coverage.

For audited sites the same record does double duty. CCTV tamper evidence and continuity of coverage are explicit expectations under facility-security and supply-chain frameworks, and a timestamped log of every outage and obstruction is what those reviews ask for.
