Vehicle Access, LPR & Contractor Authorisation
Reads plates at gates, matches each arriving vehicle against expected contractors, hauliers and booked slots, and flags vehicles entering areas they were not authorised for.

What it detects
Gate traffic is where contractor management, delivery scheduling and site security meet. These are the vehicle events Fogsphere identifies and correlates.
Plate recognition at the gate
Reads plate number, region and plate type on arrival and departure, and timestamps both against the gate and lane.
Vehicle classification
Identifies make, model, body type and colour to support fleet, haulier and loyalty analysis alongside the plate read.
Contractor and haulier schedule verification
Matches each arriving vehicle against the expected contractor list, delivery slot or booking window, and flags arrivals with no match.
Unauthorised vehicle entry
Surfaces vehicles entering the site, or a zone within it, without a corresponding authorisation for that vehicle or that time.
Loading-bay and weighbridge bypass
Flags trucks that enter loading bays they were not assigned, or that pass a weigh station without stopping.
Gate tailgating by vehicles
Detects a second vehicle following through on one authorisation, with both plates captured where the view allows.
Gate event and video correlation
Links every barrier, ANPR and access event to the matching clip, so a disputed arrival can be settled from one record.
Watchlist and repeat-vehicle matching
Flags plates on a configured watchlist, and surfaces vehicles that return repeatedly outside any expected pattern.
Gate queue and dwell
Measures how long vehicles wait at the gate and how long processing takes, per lane and per peak period.
Abandoned and over-dwelling vehicles
Identifies vehicles parked beyond their expected dwell in yards, forecourts and access roads, including those left in place overnight.
Movement outside authorised windows
Detects vehicle movement in zones or at times that the vehicle’s authorisation does not cover.
Where it applies
Gate ANPR and contractor verification are described in the oil & gas, logistics, chemical, manufacturing, construction, power-generation, retail and smart-city papers, usually together with queue and dwell measurement at the same gate.
How it works
Edge inference on the cameras you already have
Plate reading and vehicle classification run on the gate camera already installed, with inference on the edge device at the gatehouse. Barrier and ANPR hardware already in place can be reused rather than replaced.
Zones, thresholds and schedules you configure
Configure the expected-arrivals source, the lane and zone rules, the watchlist, and the dwell threshold that counts as abandoned. Slot windows can be tightened per gate and per shift.
Every event carries its own evidence
Each detection is logged with a timestamp, the camera and zone it came from, and a short clip. The record can be reviewed, exported or attached to an investigation without trawling through hours of footage.
Feeds the systems already in place
Events surface in Fogsphere Manager and route outward to the VMS, access-control platform, control-room wallboard, ticketing queue or messaging channel operators already watch.
Risk & control objective
The control objective is authorisation, not obstruction. The barrier already decides who gets through; what is usually missing is a reliable record of which vehicle it actually was, whether it belonged there at that hour, and where it went afterwards.
Contractor and haulier traffic is the hard part. On a large industrial site the majority of daily vehicle movements belong to companies the operator does not employ, arriving against schedules held in a different system. Reading the plate and comparing it to the expected list turns that traffic from an assumption into a log.
The same gate data answers an operational question at no extra cost. Queue length, processing time and dwell at the gate are measured by the same camera that reads the plate, which is why the papers consistently pair gate security with turnaround analytics.
