Zone Occupancy Monitoring
Counts how many people are inside a defined zone at any moment, tracks how that number moves across a shift, and flags when a zone goes over or under its configured limit.

What it detects
Occupancy is the base measurement most operational and safety questions reduce to. Fogsphere produces it per zone, continuously, from existing cameras.
People count per zone
Counts people inside each defined area, workstation, room or floor plate, updated continuously rather than sampled.
Over-occupancy thresholds
Flags a zone exceeding its configured maximum, whether that limit comes from a permit, a fire plan, a licence condition or a local rule.
Under-occupancy and unattended zones
Surfaces areas that should be staffed and are not — an unmanned station, a control position left empty, a required attendant absent.
Room, bed and treatment-area occupancy
Tracks occupancy of clinical rooms, bays, waiting areas and treatment spaces to support utilisation and flow reporting.
Site occupancy by floor, zone or package
Reports how many people are working on each floor, zone or work package, and by which contractor where the view supports it.
Permit and maintenance-zone occupancy
Counts personnel inside permit areas, isolation zones and maintenance work fronts, against what the permit expects.
High-risk area occupancy
Flags excessive occupancy of confined spaces, hazardous-process zones and other areas with a hard headcount limit.
Muster and assembly-area occupancy
Counts arrivals at muster points during drills and evacuations, and reports how the count builds over time.
Dock, bay and staging occupancy
Measures how many positions are in use across docks, loading bays and staging areas, and for how long.
Space utilisation by area
Aggregates occupancy over time into utilisation by aisle, department, floor or zone, for space and staffing decisions.
Where it applies
Occupancy measurement appears in all twelve Q3 papers. The zone changes — a ward, an aisle, a permit area, a work front, a loading dock — but the count is the same primitive.
How it works
Edge inference on the cameras you already have
Counting runs on the cameras already covering the space, with inference on the edge device. Overlapping views are reconciled so a person crossing between two cameras is counted once.
Zones, thresholds and schedules you configure
Draw the zone, set the maximum and minimum headcount, and set the schedule those limits apply on. Permit areas, muster points and trading floors can each hold different rules on the same camera.
Every event carries its own evidence
Each detection is logged with a timestamp, the camera and zone it came from, and a short clip. The record can be reviewed, exported or attached to an investigation without trawling through hours of footage.
Feeds the systems already in place
Events surface in Fogsphere Manager and route outward to the VMS, access-control platform, control-room wallboard, ticketing queue or messaging channel operators already watch.
Risk & control objective
The control objective is knowing how many people are in a space, in a form that can be acted on and audited. Sign-in sheets, badge counts and permit registers all approximate it; none of them reflect who actually walked back out for a break.
The value is that a single measurement answers questions from three different departments. Safety asks whether a permit area is over its headcount. Operations asks whether a work front is staffed to plan. Facilities asks which zones are worth the space they occupy. All three are the same count, sliced differently.
In an emergency the same measurement changes register entirely. Occupancy per zone, immediately before an alarm, is the fastest available approximation of where people were — and the count building at the muster point is how completion is confirmed.
